Whilst they had both been teachers in Vietnam, Tran and Linda’s limited grasp of English meant they were unable to pursue this profession in their new country. Their fierce determination to embrace their newfound freedom saw Tran and Linda seek new opportunities. After tirelessly gaining farming labour skills by working at a market garden, Tran and Linda saved $10,000 – enough to lease a market garden in Wanneroo for two years.
Tran and Linda then bought and developed an eight hectare block in Carabooda and over time accumulated more land in the area. Although interest rates were a crippling 17.5% at the time, Tran and Linda’s unwavering determination and grueling hard work (they often worked 18-hour days) saw them reap rewards and grow their success.
In 2000, Tran and Linda purchased a picturesque 98ha property north of Perth at Woodbridge, where they built a huge dam and bore and began developing the land for irrigation over the next two years.
Soon after moving to Woodbridge, T&C Do & Son began supplying to Coles and were able to acquire another 224ha in different lots so they could rotate their crops and increase production. Their most recent land purchase also allowed them to produce spring onions and silverbeet. T&C Do & Son now also supply their premium produce to Woolworths and Aldi.
With the bore running continuously throughout summer, we can now keep up with the demand for irrigation water and produce vegetables 52 weeks a year.
